Tasting Notes

Deep red color. This wine has vibrant aromas of black fruit, tobacco and pepper with spicy-floral hints. It has an intense and well balanced acidity. The oak is beautifully integrated with elegant and fine grained tannins. A subtle minerality provides fresh-ness and good length.

Beef, pork, lamb, quail and other game birds. Also pairs well with cream-based sauces.

Double selection process. Destemming. Selected yeasts. Push-downs and two pump-overs daily. Fermentation at 28°C (82°F) maximum. Extended maceration for 35 days. Aged for 13 months in 30% new French oak barrels and 70% second-use French oak barrels.

Blend is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec Alcohol 14.5%; acidity 5.4 g/L.

Grapes grown at Finca Dominio Gualtallary (Gualtallary Sur, Valle de Uco), at an elevation of 1,300 m / 4.265 ft. (average).

Mint, dried herb and cassis flavors, with tangy acidity and well handled oak, nicely folded into the wine. A sublte minerality provides freshness and good length.

Destemmed, lightly crushed. Pumping over and delestage 3 times a day. Max. temp. 30°C. Extended maceration 35 days. Aged for 13 months in 30% new French oak barrels and 70% second-use French oak barrels.

    "Stewed-blackcurrant, black-cherry, vanilla and matcha aromas. It’s medium-bodied with creamy tannins. Rich and polished with intense layers of fruit. Chocolate cherries on the finish. Minerally and beautiful length. With 4% cabernet franc. Drink or hold."

    "Bright ruby-red. Varietally expressive aromas of black cherry, currant, licorice, tobacco, fresh herbs and black pepper. Dense but juicy; richer than the BenMarco Cabernet but less expressive in the early going and a bit more dominated by its structure, which Susana Balbo partly attributes to the newer oak (3,000-liter toneles that were previously used only to ferment the Malbec that goes into her Nosotros bottling). Very ripe black cherry fruit complicated by notes of tobacco and pepper. Finishes classically dry, with firm, suave tannins and captivating lingering sweetness. A serious Cabernet, but hold it for another six to nine months before pulling the cork."

    "Bright red-ruby. Classic Cabernet herbs and tobacco leaf complicate aromas of currant, licorice and flowers. Offers noteworthy definition and inner-mouth tension but a bit less sweetness and density of material than the Signature Malbec. There's a touch of greenness here but it complements the wine's dark fruit and candied cherry flavors. This wine should drink well on the early side but also last for several years."

    "Sourced from the same terroir as the BenMarco Cabernet, the 2016 Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon was produced with grapes from specific plots of the same vineyard in Los Árboles, harvested a little later and aged in oak for a little longer here. It's juicy, expressive and varietal, and it has a round palate with some herbal flavors and fine, round tannins. 50,000 bottles produced."

    "Plum liqueur, redcurrants, crushed stones, oyster shell, creme de cassis, some subtle resin, roasted herbs and pepper. This is so polished and focused on the palate with tightly wound but generous tannins, a vibrant line of acidity and a long, chewy finish. Drink in 2021."

    "Good bright red. Slightly herbal aromas of cherry, redcurrant, licorice and tobacco leaf, plus a whiff of rose petal. Suave, fine-grained wine with moderate depth but a lovely restrained sweetness and firm acidity; as much red fruits as black. Finishes with broad, ripe tannins that dust the palate and teeth. Doesn't show quite the palate presence or length for 90 points but nicely structured for drinking over the next several years."

    "The 2015 Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from Los Árboles in the district of Tunuyán in the Uco Valley, is sourced from a cool year, and has an austere, strict profile. The oak in unnoticeable, nicely folded into the wine, and the palate is ultra-sleek, polished and elegant, with very fine tannins, nice acidity, and a subtle minerality providing freshness and length. The balsamic, herbal character grows in the glass, where the wine feels fresher and fresher. This is a great vintage for this bottling. 48,000 bottles produced."
