Vivid Expressions from the Cool, Foggy Heart of Green Valley – Russian River Valley

Dutton-Goldfield's mission is to craft world-class wines that express the personalities of their cool-climate home, defined by brightness of fruit, complexity, structure, and balance. Founded in 1998, the winery was born from a shared vision between longtime colleagues and friends Steve Dutton and Dan Goldfield.

Today, Dutton-Goldfield enters a new chapter under the full ownership of Steve Dutton and Karissa Kruse, deepening the winery's connection to its Sonoma County farming roots and the vineyards that define every bottle. This evolution brings the focus even closer to the land, the people, and the sense of place that have always been at the heart of the brand.

The Dutton family legacy began with Steve's father, Warren Dutton, who started growing grapes in the western reaches of the Russian River Valley in the mid-1960s. A pioneer of the region, he was among the first to plant chardonnay in its coldest corners—at a time when many believed the area was too cool to produce quality still wine. Today, Dutton Ranch encompasses an exceptional collection of 80 vineyards, providing the foundation for Dutton-Goldfield's wines.

From their favorite Dutton Ranch parcels, the team selects vineyards that come together to create quintessential expressions of Russian River Valley. A select few sites are also bottled as limited-production, single-vineyard wines that showcase the nuance of terroir. Dutton-Goldfield's Pinot Noirs are known for their balance and individuality, capturing the character of the land from which they come. Their Chardonnays, sourced from old, cold, dry-farmed vineyards in Green Valley, offer a vibrant citrus core, focused fruit, richness, and bright acidity, even after full barrel and malolactic fermentation. Syrah also thrives in this cool climate, delivering bright fruit, silky tannins, and layered complexity.

Guided by Steve and Karissa, alongside Head Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse and the broader team, Dutton-Goldfield remains committed to deepening its connection to the vineyards it farms, creating welcoming ways to experience the wines, and sharing the stories behind the people and places that bring them to life.
