Puech-Haut Argali Rosé

IGP D’Oc

After a relative warm winter, and lot of rains in January, and some record of high temperature for the season, in February and March, we had a hot summer, with two short periods in July and August of intense heat Temperatures being 2 C higher than standard September and October allowed us to harvest in good conditions, without massive rains Yields were lower than 2019 being the lower harvest quantity registered In the same time wines offer good balance between elegance, freshness and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Lovely pale coulour, complex and flattering citrus nose. It offers clean, crisp notes of white peach, strawberries and hint of flowers in the mouth.

Perfect as an aperitif or with grilled fish and salad.

The grapes came into the winery very early in the morning (2 to 8 AM) and were gently transferred to our Bucher press machines. After a soft press, direction to our stainless still tanks to fine the juice with some Pea Puree. Alcoolique fermentation and aging on lees are done in the same tanks. In order to reduce the amount of total sulfites, all the process is inerted with azote gaz that we produce on site.

Grape Variety: 60% Grenache, 40% Cinsault 65,10 Meq/L Total Acidity: 3.19 pH ABV: 14.10% Sugar: < 1 Production: 166 000 cases

The 2019 was a vintage of records with a 1st semester very humid (850mm rain) and cold. Late June a terrible heat wave hit the Languedoc with a maximum of 46°C (124°F) registered Friday 29th. The still young berries suffered and 15% of the crope was burnt. Late July, a second heat wave (41°C, 114°F) also happened with no damage. The late season went very well with little rain and mild temperature. Axel Richarte put a lot of attention to the canopy management in order to protect the berries and obtain some well-balanced fruits.a

    Wine Advocate, June 2020

"A 60-40 blend of Grenache and Cinsault, Puech-Haut's 2019 IGP Pays d'Oc Argali Rosé is a pale-pink but fruit-forward offering. Scents of strawberries and fresh citrus mark the nose, while the medium-bodied palate is silky and plump, coming to a fully dry and crisp finish."

"A mineral-driven rosé with tangerine and melon flavors that are nicely accented with spice and herb elements. Hints of white raspberry round out the mouthwatering finish. Grenache and Cinsault. Drink now. 95,000 cases made, 14,120 cases imported."

    Jeb Dunnuck, August 2020

"Released in a beautiful, frosted bottle, the 2019 Argali Rose reveals a light pink color as well as a terrific nose of tart cherries, citrus pith, white flowers, and white peach. A medium-bodied, rich, beautifully textured rosé, it spans the gap between the vibrant, fresh and quaffable Provençal efforts and a richer, Gigondas or Tavel style rosé. It's beautifully balanced, with good acidity and a clean, crisp finish."
