Bibi Graetz Casamatta Rosso
Toscana IGT, Tuscany
Tasting Notes
This red is my favorite whenever I want a glass of wine. It is a pure transparent Sangiovese with plenty cherry and raspberry, nice acidity which helps with food and a round medium body with low tannins and a vibrant and surprising aftertaste.
Vintage Notes
2020 was an unusually warm and dry vintage. Winter was mild followed by a sunny spring with some sporadic rainy day. The beginning of flowering was recorded around June, with then a regular course favored by an ideal climate characterized by hot, dry and slightly windy days. As a result, an excellent fruit set was noted which led to a good architecture of the bunches. The harvest started later than usual and lasted till the late mid of October.
Winemaking Notes
The fermentation is conducted in stainless steel tanks in order to maintain the style of the wine and it lasts for no more than a week with no maceration at the end of the process. The different vineyards are blended and age for 6 months in stainless steel tanks before the final bottling.
Technical Info
100% Sangiovese
Vineyard Notes
Casamatta grapes are sourced from the youngest vineyards, from the north of Florence to the south towards Siena.
Like most of Bibi Graetz wines, the name is very evocative. "Casa-Matta", the "Crazy-House", Casamatta Rosso reflects the freshness transparency and strength of the red fruit of Sangiovese variety. Entirely vinified in steel in order to preserve its vibrant and playful character.

Vintage Notes
2019 was a balanced vintage in line with some of the best harvests we had in the last years. Mild and temperate winter followed by a colder than usual spring with temperatures below seasonal averages. The summer season was hot, very dry and stable. These factors allowed us to have very healthy grapes with a nice level of acidity and sugar. The harvest started later than usual and lasted till the late mid of October.

In Italian, Casamatta translates to "crazy house". This moniker, self-designated by super-Tuscan winemaker, Bibi Graetz, is an homage to his very home-cum-winery-cum-art gallery. This fantastic place serves as home, winery, and art studio complete with kids, farm animals, barrels, grapes, and colorfully painted canvasses. Hence, Casamatta is a place where chaos meets life in a place where love of family, love of winemaking, and love of art all take place. It is here, where Bibi artfully crafts his Casamatta wines.
Tasting Notes
A Sangiovese with lots of cherry and raspberry, a nice acidity which helps with food and a round medium body with low tannins and vibrant back palate.
Vintage Notes
2018 had been a very balanced vintage characterized by a cold winter and a temperate spring. The vines had a full vegetative development before summer, due to the generous rains. During the summer season the sunlight exposure was balanced and uniform. The harvesting started by the end of September and lasted till mid of October.
