2016 Colomé Altura Máxima Malbec

Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator, December 2019

“Ripe aromas and concentrated flavors of roasted plum, tar and black licorice make for a dense, brooding style. Intense smokiness shows midpalate, with beefy accents on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2025. 900 cases made, 300 cases imported.”

2018 Colomé Estate Torrontés

Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, June 2019

“Bright yellow. Lovely nose melds lemon, menthol, dried herbs, lichee and ginger. Then almost surprisingly round, sweet and large-scaled in the mouth; quite full for Torrontés but also vibrant thanks to its healthy acidity (reportedly 6.7 grams per liter). A turpenic resiny quality is nicely countered by bright citricity and a floral note. This seriously palate-saturating Torrontés finishes long and outsized, with a slightly phenolic character. A rather extreme style from high-altitude vines (up to 7,500 feet) but it works. (made entirely in stainless stee”

2020 Colomé Estate Torrontés

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, March 2021

“There are subtle notes of jasmine and orange blossom in the nose of the 2020 Estate Torrontés, which was harvested at the end of February before the heat wave at 13.5% alcohol, keeping a low pH and good acidity with grapes from vineyards at 1,700 and 2,300 meters in altitude. It fermented in stainless steel and was kept there for one month before being bottled. The finish is very dry, with a chalky sensation akin to limestone soils and chalk. 120,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2020.”

2019 Colomé Auténtico Malbec

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, March 2021

“The dark and brooding 2019 Auténtico Malbec had to be harvested quickly because of a heat wave during the harvest. Eighty-five percent of the volume matured in stainless steel and the rest in concrete egg. To be honest, it feels a little flat in the palate and has plenty of notes of ripe black fruit, not as vibrant as some past vintages... 65,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2020.”

2017 Colomé 1831 Malbec

James Suckling, James Suckling, April 2020

“This has a deep and dark, purple-fruit nose with violets and brambly dark plums pervading the palate. Very rich in flavor. Drink over the next five years.”

2019 Colomé Estate Torrontés

Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, July 2020

“Aromas of lemon, lime and pastry dusted with powdered sugar lead to a round palate with citrus-like acidity. Pineapple and melon flavors come with a touch of salt, while the palate feels full with a slight grip. Drink now.”

2019 Colomé Estate Torrontés

Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator, June 2020

“The gooseberry and lemon lime flavors show peach accents. The juicy finish lingers with curry notes. Drink now. 8,500 cases made, 3,500 cases imported”

2018 BenMarco Expresivo

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, March 2021

“The modern, clean and floral 2018 BenMarco Expresivo is a blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Franc from Gualtallary with an élevage in barriques, 70% of them new, for 14 months. It's only faintly oaky and reveals good freshness and fine-grained tannins. 60,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2019.”

2018 BenMarco Malbec

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, March 2021

“The aromatic and showy 2018 BenMarco Malbec feels very harmonious and complete. It's varietal and has subtle spices and smoke, while the palate is more restrained and austere, with a fine texture and chalky tannins. Really very impressive. 250,000 bottles produced.”

2017 BenMarco Expresivo

Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, September 2019

“Bright, dark ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry, plum and licorice are lifted by floral and sexy oak notes and complemented by a touch of chocolatey ripeness, with a subtle leafy quality emerging with air. A step up in richness and sweetness from the Malbec if a bit more brooding and serious in the early going. If this wine does not yet display the subtle complexity of the 2017 Cabernet, it already stands out for its sexy use of new oak, smooth texture and tangy salty minerality. The palate-staining, taste bud-titillating finish is stylish, suavely tannic and very long, with terrific mineral grip. (Incidentally, a second sample showed similar components but they were far more knit, and this bottle more clearly displayed the Cabernet Franc component in its tobacco leaf and black pepper notes. I can see this wine going on for at least another decade.) (14.5% alcohol; from 17-year-old vines in Finca Dominio Gualta, just below Catena's Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary, cropped at about 2.5 tons per acre; aged in 100% new oak)”
