“Ripe blackberry, blueberry, plum, violet, sandalwood and ash on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, silky tannins and fresh acidity. Juicy, bright and delicious. 94% malbec and 6% petit verdot. Drink now or hold.”

2019 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, March 2021

“The 2019 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec, produced with grapes from Finca La Delfina in Paraje Altamira, contained 4% Petit Verdot, and that could be the reason why it felt a bit roasted when tasted next to the 2018 that was balanced by Cabernet Franc. It felt slightly riper, and the tannins were grainy. It needs food. 144,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2020.”

2018 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, March 2021

“The 2018 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec shows superbly; it's aromatic, expressive and open, combining floral and spicy notes and with a medium-bodied palate and very fine tannins. The Malbec from Altamira was combined with some 8% Cabernet Franc, and the two varieties seem to work very well together and complement each other. 145,000 bottles produced.”

2017 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec

Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator, December 2019

“Notes of black olive accent the dark currant, tar and dried blackberry flavors, featuring vibrant mineral hints. The firm, savory finish lingers with slate elements. Drink now through 2024. 8,000 cases made, 6,800 cases imported.”

2017 Susana Balbo Signature Malbec

Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, September 2019

“Bright ruby-red. More medicinal on the nose than the Signature Cabernet, showing slightly reduced aromas of black cherry and dark chocolate. Very intense and alive, with surprising acidity and sexy chalky mineral lift giving the wine terrific inner-mouth tension (the pH of this Altamira wine is a moderate 3.5--lower than that of the Cabernet Sauvignon). Finishes with suave, broad tannins and touch of charcoal. This sexy wine should age gracefully and is a splendid value. (aged for 13 months in 30% new and 70% used French oak)”

2018 Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon

2017 Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon

Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, September 2019

“Bright ruby-red. Varietally expressive aromas of black cherry, currant, licorice, tobacco, fresh herbs and black pepper. Dense but juicy; richer than the BenMarco Cabernet but less expressive in the early going and a bit more dominated by its structure, which Susana Balbo partly attributes to the newer oak (3,000-liter toneles that were previously used only to ferment the Malbec that goes into her Nosotros bottling). Very ripe black cherry fruit complicated by notes of tobacco and pepper. Finishes classically dry, with firm, suave tannins and captivating lingering sweetness. A serious Cabernet, but hold it for another six to nine months before pulling the cork.”
