QUINTA DO CRASTO JOINS FOLIO FINE WINE PARTNERS

Appointment marks importer’s expansion into the growing Portuguese category

Napa, CA— Thursday December 6, 2018 — Douro Valley producer Quinta do Crasto has appointed Folio Fine Wine Partners as its national importer, and sales and marketing partner, effective January 1, 2019. The partnership includes representation for both the fine dry table wine and fortified portfolios.

This agreement expands Folio’s European portfolio and marks the company’s first foray into the growing Portuguese wine category. Since 2012, the Portuguese category has shown an average increase in volume and value of 10 percent year on year (1).. Year-to-date through June 2018, the category continues a strong growth trajectory, increasing 17 percent in value and 7 percent in volume (2)., demonstrating the category’s ongoing interest for US wine trade and consumers.

Commenting on the partnership, Miguel Roquette, co-owner of Quinta do Crasto said:

“We are thrilled to join Folio Fine Wine Partners. Our intention is to continue building the Quinta do Crasto brand, which has successfully been sold in the US market for the last two decades. We are both family businesses and we believe the complimentary skills and expertise of the Folio team will help continue our success in this critical market.”

Folio Co-Founder Michael Mondavi echoed the sentiment, stating:

“The Roquette family exemplifies the values that complement our portfolio incredibly well. We have been considering entering the Portuguese category for the past few years, and while Quinta do Crasto has been successfully represented in the US market for more than 20 years, we see great promise to support their continued growth beyond the category across all major sales channels.”

The Douro Valley is steeped in wine tradition. It was the first demarcated and regulated wine region in the world in 1756, and in 2001 the region was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Located in a prime spot in the Douro Demarcated Region in Northern Portugal, Quinta do Crasto has been in the family of Leonor and Jorge Roquette for more than a century. Like all the other great Douro estates, Quinta do Crasto dates far back into ancient times. The name Crasto comes from the Latin castrum meaning “Roman fort”.

Folio will represent 15 wines from the dry table wine and fortified portfolio, ranging in retail price from SRP $20.00 for the Crasto DOC Red and Crasto DOC White wines, to the prestige Vinha Maria Teresa (SRP: $240.00). Wines are available nationally through fine wine restaurants and retail outlets across the US.
