PIPER SONOMA RELAUNCHES WITH NEW WINE AND LOOK

Historic Brand Pays Homage to Sonoma History with Refreshed Packaging

Napa, CA — December 12th, 2019 — Sonoma County sparkling wine producer, Piper Sonoma, launches its new portfolio today, featuring a new wine and new packaging across the range.

All front labels feature the Bear Flag Monument, a California historical landmark, located in the Sonoma Plaza. The packaging also boasts premium elements, including label and hood embossing and a striking design to help improve the brand’s shelf presence.

Sonoma County has long been identified as one of America’s finest growing regions for producing sparkling wine and Piper Sonoma was one of the first sparkling wine producers in the region.  In the last year, the California sparkling wine market $15+ has grown by 7% in volume and 7.5% in value, creating further opportunity for growth. **

Piper Sonoma’s Brut Reserve ($25) is the brand’s prestige sparkling wine, and the newest addition to the range. Selected from the most exceptional parcels available, the blend reflects the Sonoma County appellation characters – red fruits, strawberry and rhubarb of Pinot Noir balanced with the citrus, mineral and green apple acidity of Chardonnay – creating a wine that is uniquely expressive of the cool and coastal Sonoma County region.

Available in limited quantities, this wine is targeted to appeal to the on-premise market, and those buyers looking for a sophisticated sparkling that can appeal to the discerning wine drinker. A blend of more than 20 parcels of fruit, the wine is fermented using méthode traditionnelle before a final dosage that includes oak-aged components imparting complexity, elegance and finesse to the final blend.

The trademark cuvée, Piper Sonoma’s Brut ($22), is a blend of Chardonnay (70%) and Pinot Noir. A dry fresh style, the wine displays crisp citrus flavors with hints of green apple, mandarin orange, and brioche on the finish.

A legacy wine in the range, the latest release Blanc de Blancs NV ($22) is a blend of Chardonnay (75%) and Pinot Blanc. Pale straw in color, it shows aromas of crisp green apple, citrus and white flowers.

Piper Sonoma’s Brut Rosé ($22) is a blend of Chardonnay (53%) with Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. With aromas of freshly picked berries and tangerine, the palate displays red fruits and citrus, showcasing the bright fruit flavors of Sonoma County.

Piper Sonoma is one of the first, and the few California sparkling wines with ownership ties to France. It was founded in 1980 in Sonoma County by Marquis d’Aulan, whose family has been linked for generations with Champagne. Sourcing from vineyards across Sonoma County, the wines are produced under the guidance of the well-recognized and experienced winemaker, Keith Hock.

The wines are available nationally and retail prices are as follows: Piper Sonoma Brut NV ($22) Piper Sonoma Brut Rosé ($22), Piper Sonoma Blanc de Blancs ($22), and the limited release Piper Sonoma Brut Reserve ($25).
