2019 Dutton-Goldfield Dutton Ranch Walker Hill Vineyard Chardonnay

Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, May 2022

“Waxy apple and lemon notes give this wine a slate-like texture and edge that evolves into a sleek accent of oyster shell. It builds to a balanced richness on the midpalate, showing lush notes of pear, pineapple and brioche. ”

Piper Sonoma Brut Reserve

Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, March 2022

“This wine leads with 92% Chardonnay, the remainder Pinot Noir, made in small amounts with a reserve mentality. Oyster shell, green apple, white peach, tangerine and pear make for a sumptuously rich yet fresh and complex experience on the palate. Hazelnut provides a finishing touch of contrast. ”

“This sparkling blend relies on 92% Chardonnay, mingling in 8% Pinot Noir. Robust and dry on the palate, it has crisp acidity and a taste of oyster shell—both complements to the fresh Mandarin orange, pineapple and lemon zest that come to the fore.”

2017 Dutton-Goldfield Dutton Ranch Chardonnay

Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast, June 2019

“This is a nicely made wine, its oak barrel-influence up front yet subdued. Caramel, lemon curd and graham cracker are complemented by mineral components of stone and sea air in addition to an impressive lift of tangerine. The quenching acidity doesn't prevent the texture from feeling lush but all is ultimately balanced and bright.”

2016 Dutton-Goldfield Cherry Ridge Vineyard Syrah

Joshua Greene, Wine & Spirits, February 2022

“This grows on three acres of syrah at the top of a south-facing ridge, where the vines ripen their fruit in an otherwise cool spot for the variety—in western Green Valley, above the northern reaches of the Petaluma Gap. It was the last fruit Dan Goldfield harvested in 2016, which he then destemmed and left for a five-day cold soak before fermenting it in small open-top vats. Over the course of 23 months in oak barrels (40 percent new), the wine developed layers of darkness and light—the cool feel of a coastal forest (think Armstrong Woods). For now, it has the fragrant restraint and tension of a far-coast pinot noir, with a deeper syrah tone to its damson plum fruit. That inner tension will sustain its freshness as the wine develops with age.”

2019 Dutton-Goldfield Dutton Ranch Emerald Ridge Pinot Noir

Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck, August 2022

“The 2019 Pinot Noir Emerald Ridge Vineyard is lifted with menthol, cherry lozenge, and cola spice. The palate is full with emerging tannins, cedar, dried cranberry, and warm woodsy spice. Allow another year in bottle and drink over the following 5-6 years.”

2019 Dutton-Goldfield Dutton Ranch Walker Hill Vineyard Chardonnay

Jeb Dunnuck, August 2022

“The 2019 Chardonnay Walker Hill Vineyard was aged for 18 months in 50% new oak. It is fragrant of white flowers, lemon curd, and oak spice and is medium-bodied, with fresh acidity, notes of almond and citrus pith, and a chalky texture. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.”
