Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve
Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck, December 2024
“The NV Champagne Reserve Brut, a blend of 40% each Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and 20% Meunier, pours a yellow/golden color and is generous and inviting, with loads of classic charm in its notes of brioche, ripe peaches, honied citrus, and fresh flowers. The palate is medium framed but fleshed out by a rounded mousse and has a suggestion of decadence as well as a clean finish. This highly appealing multi-vintage cuvée sees a high percentage of reserve wine going into the final blend, which adds a very well-integrated and layered feel. Drink now or over the coming 5-7 years. Disgorged 2022.”

Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve
Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck, December 2024
“A blend of 40% Pinot Noir (5% of which is red wine from the village of Les Riceys), 35% Chardonnay, and the rest Meunier, the NV Champagne Reserve Brut Rosé pours a medium salmon/pink color. The nose is layered, fruity, and inviting, with aromas of crushed strawberries, fresh baked croissant, marzipan, and floral perfume. This carries to the palate, which is balanced with a round and chalky mouthfeel, a spritely mousse, and notes of grapefruit citrus through the finish. It offers a wide drinking window for enjoying now or over the coming 7-8 years. ”

Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs
Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck, December 2024
“The NV Champagne Blanc De Blancs Brut reveals a bright yellow hue and is floral and perfumed with aromas of honeysuckle, poached pear, parmesan, and powdery chalk. Medium-framed, it has an elegant and silky texture, a pillowing mousse, a clean and tapered finish. This cuvée was relaunched in 2018, and it has held true to my previous tastings, offering an understated, finessed feel with a good deal of charm. Drink now or over the next 6-8 years. Disgorged 2023.”

2022 Donnafugata Sherazade
Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2024
“The 2022 Nero d'Avola Sherazade wafts up with a wickedly fresh bouquet of crushed wild berries, violets, sage, white pepper and licorice. This is racy and cool-toned in feel, with juicy acidity and masses of ripe red and blue fruits that cascade throughout. The 2022 leaves a staining of primary blackberry concentration, finishing classically with framing tannins that make for a lovely punctuation. This is a wonderfully fresh yet still potent Nero d'Avola.”

2022 Donnafugata Sherazade
Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast, December 2024
“The nose is rich and savory, with aromas of hot tar, damp earth and underbrush, coffee grinds, balsamic vinegar and plums. On the palate, that plum note is accentuated by warm, delicate flavors of cherry and blood orange, even as the overall feel remains invigoratingly savory.”

2020 Donnafugata Mille e una Notte
Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2024
“The 2020 Mille e Una Notte opens with a basket of berries and spices, further complicated by shavings of cedar and minty herbs. It's silky yet sincere, with tart wild berry fruits and licorice underscored by saline minerals as a balsamic resonance forms toward the close. The 2020 finishes structured and long. Fine-tannins saturate the senses as savory herbs and hints of tart blackberry fade. Bury this deep in the cellar.”

“A round and balanced red, with fine, sculpted tannins enmeshed in a swathe of black cherry, plum sauce, herbed olive and paprika notes. Long and fresh, with hints of loamy earth and mocha lingering on the finish. Nero d'Avola, Petit Verdot and Syrah.”

2019 Donnafugata Mille e una Notte
James Suckling, James Suckling, August 2023
“Attractive red and darker berry character with dark licorice, aged citrus peel and moist earth. Full and complex with firm tannins framing the dark and blue fruit. It has a chalky, mineral backbone that adds structure and length, leading to a deep and long finish. Drink or hold.”
