2022 Amalaya Gran Corte Malbec
Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, February 2024
“The 2022 Gran Corte, a blend of 85% Malbec, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Tannat from Calchaquí Valley, matured for 12 months in used oak barrels. It boasts a purple hue and offers aromas of plum and white pepper, layered with chutney/oak notes. Indulgent, bold and juicy, its fine, reactive tannins create a compact, moderately rough palate. This is a flavorful high-altitude red.”

2021 Amalaya Gran Corte Malbec
Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, September 2022
“The 2021 Amalaya Gran Corte is a blend of 85% Malbec, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Tannat from the Calchaqui Valley and was aged for 12 months in used American and French barrels. Dark purple in hue. The nose presents notes of vanilla and mocha initially followed by hints of syrup, red fruit jam and spicy chutney. Broad with fairly insistent tannins, the alcoholic energy is well-compensated for by the acidity.”

James Suckling, James Suckling, April 2023
“Peppercorn, anise spices, graphite and hot stones to the fresh blackberries and blueberries. A hint of violet, too. Full-bodied and juicy on the palate with fresh flavors of blue and purple fruits coated by firm, fine-grained tannins. Will soften more in one or two years. ”

2019 Colomé Altura Máxima Malbec
Aaron Romano, Wine Spectator, November 2024
“A bold version, but with acidity enlivening the palate, built around cherry paste and licorice flavors. Twinges of orange peel, fresh tobacco and bay leaf swirl in. Finishes with a pleasant chew to the tannins. Good length. Drink now through 2036. ”

2022 Donnafugata SurSur
Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2023
“Candied lime enhances the cooling mint and white flower aromas as the 2022 Grillo Sur Sur comes together in the glass. This is pleasantly round and sweet upon entry, with citrus-tinged orchard fruits and sour melon tones that please the senses. It leaves a mineral staining while finishing incredibly fresh and mouth watering. There's a lovely balance here.”

2021 Donnafugata Sedàra
Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast, April 2024
“BEST BUY The nose is primarily savory, with dominant aromas of dirt and coffee, but some pop comes from a black cherry undertone and a crackle of pepper. The palate is more buoyant, with more pronounced fruit and the perkiness of orange jam and wild fennel. Tannins are polished yet structured, like a well-tailored suit.”

2022 Donnafugata Lighea
Tom Hyland, Italian Wine Report, March 2023
“100% Zibibbo; unlike the producer's famous Ben Rye (see below) this is dry. Bright, light yellow; exotic, lovely aromas of apricot, orange zest, passion fruit and jasmine. Medium-bodied with excellent ripeness and freshness, very good acidity, and a clean, round finish of moderage persistence. This is a delightful wine that suprpsies many people; pair this with Asian cuisine and enjoy over the next 3-4 years.”
