2014 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche Riserva
Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2021
“The 2014 Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna Le Rocche is a very pretty wine. Gentle and lilting in the glass, the Riserva is decidedly understated in this vintage. Sweet red cherry, mint, blood orange, spice and rose petal all open with time in the glass. In 2014, the Rocche is a mid-weight wine. It can't match the towering depth of the vintages like 1999, 2001 or 2004, but it is very nicely done and certainly a step forward. Time in the glass brings out exotic spice and citrus notes to round things out.”

2016 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Rabajà
Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2022
“The 2016 Barbaresco Rabajà is very nicely done. It offers up an enticing mélange of dark-fleshed fruit, spice, licorice, sage, tobacco and menthol, all in a relatively mid-weight, light style for this site. The 2016 won't make Giacosa fans forget about the 2001 or 2004, but it is certainly very nicely balanced. Overall, the 2016 is a bit light for Rabajà, but attractive if taken on its own terms. It should drink well for another decade or so.”

2014 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili Riserva
Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2022
“The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is soft, layered and seductive, as wines from this site tend to be. Silky tannins and lifted aromatics lend finesse to this inviting Barbaresco from Giacosa. All the elements are very nicely balanced. I very much like elegance here, even if the inner sweetness Bruno Giacosa prized so much in his wines when he was alive, never materializes.”

2016 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto
Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2021
“The 2016 Barolo is a pleasant, easygoing Barolo to drink over the next decade or so. Sweet dried cherry, leather, spice, orange peel, menthol, licorice and dried flowers are all laced together in this attractive, mid-weight Barolo from Giacosa. I suggest opening the 2016 well in advance, as it opens up beautifully with a few hours of air. This is a gorgeous wine in its peer group.”

2017 Donnafugata Bell'Assai
Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2018
“I love the irresistibly light and breezy Frappato grape. This is my first taste of an expression made by Donnafugata. The 2017 Sicilia Vittoria Frappato Bell'Assai delivers loads of fruity freshness with wild raspberry and blueberry at the front. The wine offers mid-weight concentration and plenty of vibrant energy. I can't imagine a better pairing partner for pizza night.”

2018 Donnafugata Sul Vulcano Etna Bianco
Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2021
“From Donnafugata’s relatively new winery on Mount Etna, the 2018 Etna Bianco Sul Vulcano shows mineral notes or crushed rock and volcanic ash that are delicately interwoven with white peach and Anjou pear. That characteristic sweet versus salty side to Carricante is one of the most enduring and charming traits of this promising white grape. It's a classic appetizer wine for steamed clams and mussels.”

2016 Donnafugata Tancredi
Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2019
“Donnafugata's Tancredi is one of Sicily's most popular red wines, and it's easy to see why. The 2016 Tancredi is rich and soft at the same time, with a very pleasing texture that caresses the palate with dark fruit, spice and plum. The wine is mostly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Nero d'Avola, although some Tannat and other grapes are thrown in. It ages in oak for 14 months. This is a complete effort that boasts thick layering and volume. Some 89,000 bottles were made.”
