2017 Colomé 1831 Malbec
James Suckling, James Suckling, April 2020
“This has a deep and dark, purple-fruit nose with violets and brambly dark plums pervading the palate. Very rich in flavor. Drink over the next five years.”

2019 Amalaya Malbec
Jancis Robinson, March 2020
“85% Malbec, with Tannat and Petit Verdot at 1,800 m. A less-expensive sister brand to Colomé founded in 2010. Polished and sweet. Admirably light bottle. Without the drama of some high-altitude wines but well made and pleasing.”

2019 Amalaya Malbec
James Suckling, James Suckling,
“A dusty, chewy red with plenty of tannins and blackberry and smoky flavor. It’s full-bodied and very flavorful. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”

2020 Amalaya Malbec
Joaquín Hidalgo, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2021
“I love the ultra young and fleshy 2020 Malbec that in reality contains 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot. It's ripe without excess and was bottled after one-fourth of the volume spent eight months in oak barrels. So, the effect of the oak is not noticeable in the aromas or flavors, and the wine comes through as fruit-driven and juicy while still keeping the varietal profile. They produced no less than 720,000 bottles of this wine. It was bottled in September 2020.”

2019 Amalaya Malbec
Tim Atkin, March 2020
“The Amalaya Malbec is blended with 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot, as it has been for the last three vintages. Made with organic grapes from the Finca Las Mercedes, this has damson and blackberry fruit, some vanilla spice from oak staves and good texture. 2021-25”

2018 Amalaya Gran Corte Malbec
Meredith May, October 2020
“The Malbec-based blend (9% Cab Franc and 6% Tannat) from high elevation vineyards, shows a graceful, plush persona with notes of lavender, jasmine and white peppered plums. A flush of vanilla on the finish, combined with a bright acidity, makes for a fine food pairing wine.”

2019 Amalaya Gran Corte Malbec
Joaquín Hidalgo, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2021
“The 2019 Gran Corte is a blend of 85% Malbec and 9% Cabernet Franc plus 6% Tannat that feel very integrated and complementary of each other. The wine comes through as serious and balanced, rich and ripe but without excess and with some tannins that would welcome some more time in bottle and/or food. 78,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2020.”

2018 Amalaya Gran Corte Malbec
Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, October 2020
“A blend of Malbec with 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Tannat, 100% of which spent time in French and American oak. A good example of a high-altitude wine. The nose conveys dark fruit and jam, prunes, blackberry, country herbs and red bell pepper plus hints of pyrazine. Indulgent at first, with a firm structure lent shape, volume and smooth texture by the good amount of oak. A satisfying northern wine.”

2018 Amalaya Gran Corte Malbec
Tim Atkin, March 2020
“Always a reliable and enjoyable wine at the price, Gran Corte combines Malbec with 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Tannat. Aged in older French and American barrels, it has bags of colour, plum and blueberry fruit, serious tannins, fresh acidity and some sweet oak spices. Especially commendable given the volumes involved. 2021-26”

2020 Amalaya Blanco
Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, October 2020
“A blend of Torrontés and Riesling (15%) from Cafayate, this white makes a statement at a very competitive price. Pale yellow in the glass. The nose suggests lime and orange blossom with hints of rose and tropical fruit. The acidity sticks to the gums as part of a sparky palate and good body. Well-defined floral aftertaste.”

Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs
James Suckling, James Suckling, November 2021
“Attractive white-flower and ripe-lemon aromas are married to an elegant, medium-bodied palate, where the creaminess is neatly underlined by the mousse, the lively acidity making the chalky and saline finish very clean and straight. The cuvée is based on the 2016 vintage and this fine Blanc de Blancs was disgorged in 2021. Drink now.”

2014 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili Riserva
Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, April 2019
“Fluid and juicy, with savory notes of menthol and juniper, matched to the cherry and currant fruit. Underlined by a mineral element, this features a serious whack of tannins on the finish, yet the lasting impression is of sweet, ripe cherry and berry flavors. Wonderful length. Best from 2022 through 2045. From Italy.”

2016 Bruno Giacosa Barbera d'Alba
James Suckling, James Suckling, September 2018

2006 Charles Heidsieck Brut Millésimé
Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, December 2018
“Rich notes of pastry, crushed cherry, espresso cream, saffron and spice are well-meshed with vibrant acidity in this expressive Champagne. Fine and creamy in texture, with a racy, tightly knit finish that should unfold nicely with age. Disgorged in 2017. Drink now through 2028. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 90 cases imported.”

2014 Donnafugata Tancredi
Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2018
“The 2014 Tancredi is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Nero d'Avola. The wine is creamy and dense with excellent concentration and a smooth style that leaves an especially warm feeling in the mouth. Tancredi is one of those go-to wines when you want something good, but you don't want to think too hard. It offers happy, quality drinking. This is my favorite vintage of Tancredi to date.”

2014 Donnafugata Mille e una Notte
Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2018
“The 2014 Mille e Una Notte is mostly Nero d'Avola with some other red grapes in a supporting role. This was a terrific vintage in Sicily that did not see the below average temperatures and heavy rainfall that plagued the rest of mainland Italy. Instead, the growing season was characterized by balanced temperatures and steady sunshine. The fruit has matured beautifully here, showing blackberry, ripe cherry and plum. Tangy leather and spice add complexity to the wine. This is a full-bodied red with beautiful textual richness.”

2006 Charles Heidsieck Rosé Millésimé
Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, June 2016
“Charles Heidsieck's 2006 Brut Rosé (with 10% Pinot Noir red wine) has been launched before the 2005. Disgorged at the end of 2014, the wine offers a delicate and intense wild strawberry flavor with some lovely spicy aromas on the nose. Ample, full and round, this is a lovely matured Rosé with a super intense and aromatic Pinot character (sweet cherries, red berries). The finish underlines the great complexity, purity and finesse of this vinous Rosé. There are cherry aromas again in the long aftertaste. An impressive Rosé.”
