Tasting Notes

Our 2023 Los Carneros Chardonnay is expressive and approachable; showcasing balanced fruit, beautiful crushed seashell minerality, lingering acidity and rich flavors and aromas of caramelized white pear, fresh fuji and golden delicious apple, apple blossoms and torched crème brûlée.

The 2023 vintage was defined by a cool, wet winter and spring that delayed bud break and extended the growing season. Mild summer temperatures followed, with few extreme heat spikes, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Our Carneros Chardonnay was harvested under optimal conditions between September 9th and October 1st, capturing bright acidity and vibrant aromatics. The prolonged hang time enhanced flavor complexity while preserving freshness. Smaller yields with concentrated fruit led to elegant, balanced wines with purity and depth—hallmarks of a truly classic Chardonnay vintage.

This wine underwent simultaneous alcoholic and malolactic barrel fermentation, followed by 9 months sur lie in 33% new French oak.

Our Oberon Chardonnay grapes are sourced from vineyards located within the sub-appellation of Los Carneros. Highly influenced by the San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay, Los Carneros provides the perfect combination of summer fog, warm days, cool nights and a long growing season which make it an ideal location for growing our Chardonnay grapes. Tony prefers sourcing this fruit exclusively from the western facing slopes of Carneros, for the extended exposure to the warm afternoon sun and the cooling influence of afternoon breezes.

Our 2022 Los Carneros Chardonnay is expressive and approachable; showcasing balanced fruit, beautiful crushed seashell minerality, lingering acidity and rich flavors and aromas of caramelized white pear, fresh fuji and golden delicious apple, apple blossoms and torched crème brûlée.

The 2022 vintage was a tale of two growing seasons with moderate weather through July into early August. We then saw ideal warm weather conditions through the Harvest of our 2022 Chardonnay in our Carneros vineyards September 9th and 13th. Just a few days later the Napa Valley saw triple digit temperatures followed by some measurable rainfall that delayed most red grape harvest until well into October. Small berry and cluster size combined with a near perfect Chardonnay ripening season contributed to the development of delicate, rich, beautiful wines of exceptional quality and character.

Tasting Notes

Our 2018 Los Carneros Chardonnay is expressive and approachable, showcasing balanced fruit, lingering acidity and rich flavors and aromas of caramelized white pear, fresh fuji and golden delicious apple, apple blossoms and torched crème brulee.

The 2018 vintage was a wonderful reminder of just how special and ideal a Harvest in Napa Valley can be.  The near-perfect growing season started later than previous years and saw ideal weather conditions until the last fruit was resting safely under the watchful eyes of winemaking teams all over the Valley.  The challenging heat and drizzly summer days of the 2017 growing season became just a memory as the beautifully set clusters of 2018 fruit ripened evenly in the cool mornings and warm afternoons.  Our Chardonnay grapes are sourced predominantly from the cool, breezy, sun-drenched, western-facing slopes of Los Carneros, and the 2018 Vintage saw us harvest many of our blocks the week of September 24th. The cool, even ripening season delayed harvest in most regions by a full two weeks.

With an almost perfect fruit set in the spring and cool moderate summer temperatures that led in to fall, the 2018 season yielded perfectly ripened Chardonnay.  This wine underwent simultaneous alcoholic and malolactic barrel fermentation, followed by 7 months sur lie in 33% new French oak.

"An excellent example of opulent Chardonnay with plenty of toasty, spicy oak, this rings up for far less than most of its qualitative equals. Just shy of full-bodied but amply flavorful, it has enough ripe fruit to counterbalance the oak influence and enough underlying acidity to stay nearly as fresh as it is rich through the finish."

"The 2019 Oberon Chardonnay offers attractive complexities. TASTING NOTES: This wine shines with aromas and flavors of earth, mushroom, and ripe fruit. Pair it with a roast chicken salad replete with a Haas avocado. "
