M. Chapoutier Petite Ruche Rouge

AOP Crozes-Hermitage, Rhône, France

Petite Ruche translates to "little beehive," which is a very appropriate name, as the vineyards were formerly dedicated to beekeeping.

Palate: Fresh and round, final of fruits. All is in fineness.

Grilled flank steak, leg of lamb, roast chicken and tomato-based dishes. Also compliments a wide selection of cheeses, vegetarian terrines and charcuterie.

"The 2021 M. Chapoutier Crozes-Hermitage Petite Ruche exhibits aromas and flavors of dense black fruits and sandalwood; medium finish. TASTING NOTES: This wine offers aromas and flavors of savory spices, dried leather, rustic earth, black fruits, and hints of oak. Serve it with grilled baby lamb."

"A typical syrah nose with dark cherries, violets, smoke and black pepper. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins and bright acidity. Very crunchy with a transparent character. Very silky and delicate with violets to the peppery finish. Drink or hold."

"Youthful nose of raw meat and smoke. Full, firm and dry, but lacking a bit of fruit, this is on the austere side for this appellation. Maybe it will be better with a year longer in the bottle? Drink or hold."

"Chapoutier's entry-level Crozes is the 2020 Crozes Hermitage la Petite Ruche. It's peppery and fresh, marked by pretty raspberry and cherry aromas on the nose. In the mouth, it's medium-bodied and silky but lacking the richness of the preceding vintage. However, it shows fine delineation and purity. Drink it young."
