M. Chapoutier Les Meysonniers Blanc

AOP Crozes-Hermitage, Rhône

Les Meysonniers white wine epitomizes the authentic character of Marsanne in Crozes-Hermitage.

Tasting Notes

Pale yellow in color with green highlights. The nose is full of quince, peony, and roasted almonds. The palate is fresh and supple.

Enjoy with fish, shellfish, and salads. Perfect for picnics with mild creamy cheese and mature strong cheeses. Also pairs nicely with Asian inspired and spicy dishes. Ideal with a seafood platter.

The 2022 growing season was about adapting todrought and heat. Winter was cold with temperatures regularly dropping below zero. Spring came in timidly, in slow motion. As a whole May was dry and hot, with the Northern Rhône Valley receiving 110mm of rain, about three times less than in recent vintages. The summer saw heatwaves and little rain. Despite all of the challenges, the Marsanne shows well-preserved acidity and bright aromas which will be this vintage’s hallmark feature.

The entire harvest is pressed directly, followed by cold settling for 48 hours. Fermentation takes place in 600 liter casks with natural yeasts. The wine is aged 7-8 months in 100% stainless steel tanksin order to preserve aromatic qualities.

Gently sloping south facing hillsides. The soil is comprised of Isère river sedimentary soils and large, round pebbles. Mature 20 to 40 year-old vines are used to produce Les Meysonniers Blanc.

Grapes: 100% Marsanne
Alcohol by Volume: 12.5%

"Stunning nose of ripe mirabelle with delicate candied citrus aromas. Wonderful mineral freshness that picks you up and carries you into the sky. So clean and bright at the long finish. From organically grown grapes. From the eastern side of the appellation with gravelly sedimentary soil. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"Another beautiful white from the team, the 100% Marsanne 2021 Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers Blanc offers up lots of stone fruits as well as a touch of reductive minerality to go with a medium bodied pure clean elegant style on the palate. It's clearly an outstanding white and should have 5 to 7 years of longevity."

"Very creamy, with plenty of candied-lemon and orange character and touches of hay, this is a rather full-bodied and textural white Rhone. Interesting toasty nuances at the supple finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"Ripe, displaying a juicy mix of clearly defined lemon gelée, white nectarine and honeysuckle notes that have good energy right from the start, with bold quince and meringue accents on the finish. Drink now through 2025"

"The 2020 Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers Blanc is charming and textured, with some ripe tropical and peach-like fruits as well as white flower notes. Medium-bodied and nicely concentrated, with a great mix of richness and elegance, drink it over the coming 4-5 years."

"Pear, melon, citrus and hints of white paste appear on the nose of the 2020 Crozes Hermitage Blanc Les Meysonniers. It's medium to full-bodied, clean, zesty and fresh, yet perhaps could use a bit more breadth and richness. My recollection is that the 2018 and 2019 were bigger, richer, more pleasure-giving wines at this stage of their evolution. Drink it over the next few years."
