Isole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT

Toscana IGT, Tuscany

One of the finest examples of Bordeaux varietals grown in Italy, made only from mature vineyards to produce a complex, age-worthy Cabernet-based blend.

Tasting Notes

The Cabernet Sauvignon shows pure berry and cassis fruit flavors on the palate with focused and layered expressions of blackberry fruit, vanilla, and minerals. Savory in flavor, velvety in texture with firm yet supple tannins.

A mild and relatively dry winter and early spring allowed for regular budding. Some rain during the second half of spring prepared the terrain for a classic summer with little rain and characterized by regular, warm temperatures with very few extreme peaks. Bunches were in excellent health which resulted in a generous yield, both in terms of quality and quantity.

"A tightly wound style, exhibiting blackberry, black currant, cedar, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors. Lively, with dense yet finely wrought tannins and a long, concentrated finish. Powerful, this remains within bounds. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Best from 2025 through 2040. 90 cases imported."

"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata shows impeccable fruit ripeness and balance with a dark core of blackcurrant that is elegantly surrounded by spice and savory notes. This Cabernet Sauvignon embraces tobacco and baking chocolate. It delivers rich texture that needs a few more years in the bottle to soften. It also shows a balanced 15% alcohol that goes relatively unnoticed."

"Notes of chocolate-coated dark cherries and cassis with roasted walnut, nutmeg, cedar and spice box. Full-bodied, big and opulent with an array of ripe and compact tannins coming through. Toned acidity gives energy and juiciness to the dark fruit. Really polished and refined."

"Impenetrable dark ruby. At first, quite a bit of oak on the nose and with brooding, embryonic fruit underneath. No immediate affinity with bordeaux, if that is what you were expecting. Compact, juicy red fruit and with the creamy oak working as an emollient. Compact, grainy tannins. Has all the building blocks for ageing and right now this is still much too young"
