Susana Balbo Signature Rosé

Uco Valley, Mendoza

Tasting Notes

Elegant salmon color. On the nose it shows a delicate, subtle florality with aromas of strawberry and cherry. In the mouth, its fresh and juicy acidity pair perfectly with flavors of strawberry and red currant. Very good balance and structure.

Very good both as an aperitif and with food, due to the tension on the palate. Pairs beautifully with smoked salmon, Asian spicy food, grilled poultry, hard cheeses.

Hand picked and destemmed. Low pressed. Cold maceration with dry ice for 1 hour. Selected yeasts. Fermented during 25 days at 12°C.

Blend is 60% Malbec, 40% Pinot Noir. Alcohol 13.2%; acidity 6.4 g/L.

Grapes grown in the Uco Valley, at an average elevation of 1,200 m.

Tasting Notes

An elegant wine, well-balanced and crisp, that seduces because of its very light-pink, red onion peel, salmon color. This Rosé has fresh, citric, mineral and sweet red berries aromas. Well-textured palate that offers juicy strawberry and cherry flavors. It has a persistent and elegant finish.

"The very pale 2017 Susana Balbo Rosé is produced with 60% Malbec and 40% Pinot Noir. In reality, this is more of a white in terms of the aromatic and flavor profile. It's super fresh, light and agile, with notes of flowers, a vibrant palate and delicious flavors. It's really refreshing and should work wonderfully with food. Truly delicious. I think this should develop nicely for a few years in bottle. It's a lot more complex and serious than your average rosé. 40,000 bottles produced."

"The best rosé in Argentina? Either way, this is super-fresh and pure with more floral and candied citrus notes than red berries plus a stunning balance of racy acidity and mineral freshness. Made from malbec and pinot noir. Drink now."

"Bright medium orange-pink. Some spicy, herbal lift to the somewhat shallow red berry aromas. Offers decent fine-grained texture and freshness but little in the way of fruit intensity. This savory, dry wine struck me as a bit neutral but delivers good freshness and finishing grip. Still, this rather delicate rosé has refreshment value and decent length."

"There is also a 2016 Susana Balbo Rosé following the style of the wines from Provence, harvesting early, with a light pressing to obtain a pale must and using grapes from the Valle de Uco. 2016 broke all the rules about vintages in Mendoza, and it resulted in a very light and fresh rosé produced as a blend of Malbec with 40% Pinot Noir with the faintest trace of sugar and very good acidity and freshness. Its profile reminded me more of a white than a rosé, and it certainly has nothing to do with your average rosé. This is a serious rosé, with clean aromas and a sharp, fresh and very dry palate. This is one of the most impressive rosés I remember from Argentina. 24,000 bottles produced."
