It has many aromatic layers, with floral and citrus notes that combine with hints of fresh grass, white fruits and orange. In the mouth, floral, fresh and fruity flavors are in perfect balance with the unctuousness of a successful aging in barrels. A wine with a mineral, persistent finish and a great aging potential.

Tasting Notes

This is a blend with many layers on the nose thanks to the blend of varieties. Sauvignon Blanc brings fresh-ness, the Torrontés, the floral notes and the Semillón, stone fruits. This white wine has very good texture on the mouth, coming from the work made on lees. The wood is very harmonic, which makes it a very elegant wine.

"Fragrant nose of lemon blossoms, green apples, gooseberries, lychees and guavas. Sea salt, too. It’s medium-bodied with bright, tangy acidity. Crisp and energetic with plenty of refreshing green-fruit, mineral and saline notes. Vivid. Blend of semillon, sauvignon blanc and torrontes. Drink or hold. Glass stopper."

"A wine that has inspired a new raft of white blends in Argentina, this is a deftly judged cuvée of mostly Semillón with 32% Sauvignon Blanc and 23% Torrontés. Showing appealing 60% new wood, it has lots of lime and orange peel aromas, herbal undertones and a tangy, grapefruity, bone-dry palate. 2023-30"

"A blend of 40% Semillón, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Torrontés from Paraje Altamira; 100% aged in oak, 60% new, for six months. A complex wine, the 2019 White Blend Susana Balbo Signature Brioso presents an intriguingly diverse nose of honey, orange blossom, fennel and aniseed with the ageing process providing a backdrop that is key to the overall effect but not overwhelming. Malic in the mouth, it has a dry, terse texture with a light structure where the emphasis is on freshness rather than body. A white with an intriguing, exotic profile for curious palates."

"I had two vintages to taste of the floral, aromatic and citrusy white blend, including the 2019 Susana Balbo Signature White Blend that was produced with 40% Semillon, 35% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Torrontés from Altamira. It combines the exotic notes of the aromatic varieties with the seriousness and freshness of the Semillon. It has integrated spice from the five months in barrel and a dry and harmonious palate with chalky sensations and moderate alcohol coupled with very good acidity. This should age nicely. 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2019."

"Green-tinged silver-yellow. Piquant aromas of citrus peel, ginger, quinine, crushed stone, white pepper, wild herbs and anise. Dry, smooth, concentrated and fresh, with some dusty unabsorbed CO2 giving the wine a light touch in spite of its roundness. Communicates a tactile impression of dry extract on the back half, with the flavors of quinine, mint and wild herbs carrying through a subtle, very long finish. This distinctive white blend boasts plenty of palate presence. Incidentally, Susana Balbo exports nearly all of her production and 40% of the total is white wine, which is unusually high for a producer in Argentina."

"Very pale color. Aromas of musky grapefruit pith and fresh herbs. Offers lovely texture and intensity, showing strong citrussy grapefruit and herb flavors complicated by intriguing salinity. Not a particularly fruity style but boasts excellent citric tension and finishes with terrific salty grip and excellent length. The Signature Torrontés is easier to drink while this cooler style is more powerful and cutting and needs to be served with food. This Sémillon, incidentally, boasts uncanny intensity, but Balbo notes that it's difficult to sell pure Sémillon. This is actually the white version of Balbo's Brioso red blend, but the word Brioso does not appear on the label in the domestic market."

"Lots of citrus peel and sage, but also something flinty. Great freshness is married to discreet creaminess on the palate in a really exciting way, then the minerals kick in at the long, racy finish. A blend of semillon, sauvignon blanc and torrontes fermented and matured in French oak. Drink now."
