AOC Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru, Burgundy

Tasting Notes

Intense garnet color with complex aromas of red and black fruit and stones. On the palate, experience a density combined the firm tannins with surprising freshness and the strength.

Cold maceration with natural yeast fermentation in vat over the course of three weeks. Aged for 12 months 25% new barrels.

The vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses are in a very hilly area at an altitude between 820 and 1,150 feet and stretch over the slopes between Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune. Pernand-Vergelesses itself has only six Premier Crus - among these are Les Fichots, En Caradeux, Creux de la Net, Les Plantes des Champs et Combottes, Ile des Vergelesses, and Les Vergelesses. Masion Champy owns just over 4 acres in this climat, or vineyard plot.

    James Suckling, February 2018

"An estate-grown parcel of 1.69 hectares with a third of old vines and 25% new oak. There are brambly, sous-bois aromas with red cherries, berries and cool, dark cherries. Succulent on the palate with fine, firm tannins that hold well. This has some aging potential. Try from 2021."

    Wine Enthusiast , December 2018

"This wine is ripe with tannins and red-cherry fruits. It has spice from wood aging and a firm core that will soften. This will be a rich wine, juicy and well balanced. Drink from 2023."
