AOC Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru, Burgundy

Established since the Middle Age, in the north of the Côte de Beaune, this very hilly vineyard covers the hillsides of Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune. The diversity of its soils and its exposure give a strong identity to each "Cru". 53 ha of this production area is planted with Chardonnay (White), including 7 Premiers Crus on 17.60 ha : Sous Frétille, Caradeux, Clos Berthet, Clos du Vilage, Quarters, Morand, and Village of Pernand. We own 0.94 ha of this appellation.

Tasting Notes

White gold color, intense and complex nose, opening on aromas of citrus fruit (orange) and white flesh fruits. The attack is fresh and supple, the mouth is round and greedy. Notes of candied fruits, and richness. Acacia flecks and a mineral side are revealed at the end of the mouth. The finish is long and balanced.

Perfectly partnered with a fricassée of Bresse in a gingerbread sauce, a fish tagine, or cheeses such as Comté, Beaufort or ewe cheese.

Pneumatic press, settling down, alcoholic fermentatoin in barrels with natural yeast.  Wine is matured in 228-liter barrels (30% new) for 10 months.

These vineyards cover the hilly slopes of Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune. There are only four Premier Crus Pinot Noirs: “Les Fichots”, “En Caradeux”, “Creux de la Net”, “Iles des Hautes et Basses Vergelesses”.

Aged in a 350-litre barrel and a traditional 228-litre used barrel. Domaine Champy grapes, in their second year of conversion towards FR-BIO-10 organic wine certification.  Production : 7500 bottles.

    "Here is a sophisticated and elegant white Burgundy for a moderate price. The oak is already perfectly integrated with the apple-ring and candied-lemon fruit. Lovely mineral freshness at the rather crisp finish. Drink or hold."

    "Full, yet delicate nose of hazelnuts and ripe pears, then a ripe but cool and restrained palate. The combination of concentration, graceful balance and mineral acidity gives this so much appeal, if sophistication is what you are seeking. Long, clean finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."
