Tasting Notes

The Baligant vineyard is located in the Northern Rhône Valley on the right bank of the Rhône, between Condrieu in the north and Cornas in the south.

To be enjoyed in these first years with red meats, rack of lamb, but it will age and serve advantageously more refined dishes such as roast game and steak of doe.

The palate is bright with a gentle acidity throughout, complexity and balance with an outstanding aftertaste making this wine a great St. Joseph.

"Very fresh, with beams of violet-infused cassis and cherry purée streaming through backed by subtle minerality which lengthens and tones the finish. Drink now through 2024. 3,916 cases made, 215 cases imported."

"There's an almost Southern Rhône garrigue quality in the 2017 Saint Joseph Baligant, which comes from a mix of granite and schist soils and is aging in a mix of 300- and 600-liter barrels. Black raspberry, blackberry, leafy, pepper herbs, and ample spice notes all give way to a charming, silky textured, downright gulpable effort to drink over the coming 2-4 years."

"Ogier continues to improve its offerings. The 2017 Saint Joseph Baligant spent six months in hogsheads and demi-muids, resulting in a supple, creamy wine that's already really approachable. It may not age past 6-7 years, but it's a lush mix of black cherries and mocha to enjoy young."
