Maison Champy Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

AOC Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, Burgundy

Tasting Notes

This wine showcases a beautifully intense garnet color. On the nose, hints of citrus and ripe dark fruits against a backdrop of oak, incense, and spice. With richness and volume, this wine is flavorful on the palate with undertones of mineral and stone and a strong finish.

Aged for 16 months in oak barrels from the Tronçais forest, of which 50% are new.

Gevrey-Chambertin is a larger village in the Côte de Nuits, with one of the largest vineyards of the Côte d'Or. Its wines are powerful and round, thanks to a good amount of clay marl in the limestone soil. The vineyards are planted on slopes, located between 780 and 920 feet above sea level. This village has nine Grands Crus over a total surface area of 210 acres, of which approximately 10% are the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru.

"Just two barrels (one new) of purchased grapes. This has a peppery edge with spiced orange zest, pomegranate and some very attractive wild red cherries. The palate has a juicy and plush feel. Very layered with fine tannins, which build long and emphatic power into the finish. Plenty of acidity, good depth and some chew. Try from 2021."

"Aromas and flavors of medicinal herbs, cherry and baking spices mark this powerful yet polished red, which is concentrated and long, but also vibrant and taut, winding down on the finish with graphite and spice elements. Best from 2024 through 2043. 50 cases made."
