Patience was a virtue in 2018. An ideal growing season culminating with a long, slow-paced harvest, the 2018 vintage exhibited larger grape clusters with overall yields much closer to the State’s normal averages. This marks a change from the last several vintages which exhibited lower yields due to drought conditions. The 2018 growing season, for many, began in late February and was marked by showers in March and April, pushing the timing of bloom back to what is considered a more “normal” time. The rains also provided adequate moisture for good canopy growth well into the growing season and the mild Spring allowed for extended flowering which eventually led to uniform grape clusters. Temperatures remained steady and warm throughout the growing season, with no significant heat spikes, making for a cool and unhurried harvest which extended into late Autumn.
Light pink and salmon-colored, we made our wine with Provence in mind. Fresh, aromatic and enticing aromas of strawberry, cranberry and ripe pear fill the glass. Lightweight in the mouth with waves of flavor roll across the palate. A nice touch of acidity on palate give the wine a long, crisp finish. .
A welcome end to four years of drought brought with it a consistent and healthy bud break for the 2017 vintage in mid-March. Light rains throughout April kept away any risk of frost before the warmth of May brought the vineyards to life. Ample water from a wet winter complimented a sun-filled spring with no major heat spikes, resulting in vigorous vine growth and canopy development to protect optimal bloom and fruit set. The heat of summer also benefited from the recharged aquifers, acting as a buffer to maintain healthy soil moisture levels through a series of hot days. The 2017 harvest began in August under optimal conditions, providing abundant, well-balanced fruit with tremendous character.

Some vintners have called the 2016 vintage “a near-perfect growing season”. The 2016 growing season was very smooth with warm, mild weather devoid of any noteworthy heat spikes or climatic anomalies. We saw ideal weather conditions throughout and wrapped up as the region’s first significant fall rainstorm arrived in mid-October. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness.
Our Cabernet Sauvignon and Barbera grapes were harvested at the optimum maturity to capture the bright fruit flavors while retaining fresh acidity. We made this wine with the Provence style in mind while being true to its California roots and Italian family heritage. Finally, we added just a touch of Muscat for the aromas to round out the blend.
Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, balance is Barbera and a touch of Muscat Alcohol: 13.5%
