Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes CDP Blanc

AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône

Although Châteauneuf du Pape wines are well-known today, in particular for their great red wines (95% of the appellation) mainly from Grenache Noir varieties, connoisseurs will recognise in the white wines all the signs of a great 'terroir'. Two limestone plots at the Terroirs du Clos are kept for a wine whose uniqueness has no equal with regard to its delicacy, which will seduce palates that are seeking freshness and minerality.

Tasting Notes

Appearance : The colour is a beautiful golden yellow with glints of green. Nose : The nose expresses the specificity of this wine, with aromas of white fruit (apple, pear), orange blossom, aniseed and lemon and woody undertones. Palate : The palate has much presence, is very fruity, with finesse, breadth and sweetness, but retaining a good balance of freshness.

Ideal with fish, crayfish, pike 'quenelles' with with 'Nantua' sauce, spicy dishes, etc.

Direct pressing of whole crop in pneumatic wine-press with closed 30hl cage and moderate settling for 12 hours at a very low temperature. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and 22hl concrete ovoid tanks between 15 and 18°C, then post-fermentation filtering to eliminate the largest sediment and the separation of the lees. The Roussanne is fermented in new 300hl barrels.  Aged for 6 months on fine lees in ovoid tanks, which enable a natural stirring of the lees. New 300hl barrels for the Roussanne.

25% Grenache Blanc, 25% Clairette, 25% Roussanne, 25% Bourboulenc

"The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Blanc delivers clear, pristine notes of tangerine and lime on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, it's round and silky in texture, with a vibrant, refreshing finish. Drink it on the young side."

"Ripe and enticing, with lots of white peach, green melon and yellow apple flavors laced with notes of shortbread and honeysuckle. A stony echo adds spine and length. Should unwind nicely. Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne. Best from 2021 through 2023. 1,666 cases made, 1,250 cases imported."

"This is a sun-kissed, plushly textured blend of equal parts Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Clairette, sourced entirely from limestone soils. Vinified and matured in 20–25% new French oak, it's supple but freshly balanced and highlights pristine yellow apple, apricot and grapefruit flavors. While it drinks beautifully already, it should gain savory complexities through 2028."
