"Good medium red. A sexy note of musky, smoky reduction to the aromas of plum, currant, espresso and mocha, plus a whiff of candied flowers. Supple, nicely concentrated, inexpensive Cabernet with good herbal lift and bright acidity enlivening its varietally accurate currant, tobacco and spice flavors. In fact, this wine relies as much on its sound acidity as on its fine dusty tannins for structure. Distinctly riper than the 2016 version and an excellent value. Sappy and easy to drink."

"There are slightly more spicy aromas in the 2017 Críos Cabernet Sauvignon, partly because of the varietal aromas and partly because some 40% of the wine matured in neutral, well-seasoned oak barrels for about nine months. They like stonier soils for Cabernet Sauvignon, and in the last few years, this has been produced with grapes from the Valle de Uco. They want to avoid green aromas and also the over-ripeness, and the stony soils are the best for that. 90,000 bottles produced."

    2015 Crios Cabernet Sauvignon
Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, December 2016

"Balbo's favorite grape after Torrontés is Cabernet, and she gives extra attention to the vineyard selection used for the 2015 Críos Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine's profile is that of an elegant, earthy and balanced red with nicely integrated spices from its nine months in used oak barriques and the herbal notes of the variety. When I first put my nose in the glass I thought they had done a new Cabernet Franc in the Críos range, such is the freshness and high-pitched fruit here. From this vintage on all the grapes are sourced from vineyards in the Valle de Uco, a place that provides good freshness to the wines and saw a much healthier crop than Luján for the variety in 2015. This has a profile with great austerity and freshness, with spices and herbal aromas and beautiful tannins. Simply superb. 90,000 bottles produced."

"Deep red-ruby. Rather claret-like aromas of plum, blackberry, mocha, licorice and chocolate. Supple, juicy and dry, with berry flavors complicated by licorice and game. This is serious juice for fifteen bucks. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a hint of herbs."

"The 2014 Críos Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant, earthy and balanced. A with all the Crios range it now has a small description of the style on the label that is a help for the consumer to know what they are going to find in the bottle. Today 75% of the grapes used in the winery are from Uco and 25% from the Agrelo zone in Luján de Cuyo. The red Crios range is mainly grapes from Tupungato with one-fourth grapes from Agrelo. It fermented in stainless steel with some inner staves and then matured in third-use barrels as they aim for fruit-driven wines without aromas of wood. There are plenty of plums, dark spices, balsamic aromas and notes of aromatic herbs and a ripe Cabernet character. Fresh, with good acidity with more tension and nerve in the palate with less alcohol and more balance. The tannins are very polished with a velvety texture. 96,000 bottles produced."
