"Susana Balbo ages this wine in second-use French oak to preserve primary fruit aromas): Inviting dark ruby-red. Lovely violet lift to the vibrant aromas of blackberry, chalky minerals and earth. At once juicy and creamy, in a more European style, showing more tension than weight to its dark berry flavors. Vibrant and nicely delineated thanks to its relatively low 3.55 pH and sound acidity."

"This still has the morello cherries you would expect, but there's certainly a layer of more subtle complexity in the form of bark, tar and creme de cassis. Full body, finely judged acidity, soft but structured tannins and a chewy finish. Drink now."

"Produced with grapes from one vineyard in Chacayes in the Valle de Uco, the 2016 BenMarco Malbec is floral, spicy, aromatic, showy and expressive, with great freshness and lots of aromatic herbs, black pepper and flowers. This has both good ripeness and freshness, with very fine tannins. It's a short (the shortest!) vintage with moderate alcohol but good concentration. 200,000 bottles produced. In the last few years, this has been sourced from Altamira."

"There are more notes of aromatic herbs (thyme mainly) in the nose of the 2015 Benmarco Malbec, from a year with an extra degree of freshness compared with 2014. This is also sourced from Los Chacayes and matured in used oak barrels. The palate shows great balance, very fine tannins and a fine thread of acidity going through its core, lifting it up and giving it length. Some 100,000 bottles produced."

"(as with the Expresivo bottling, this is from calcaire soil in Gualtallary; aged in 30% new oak): Bright medium red-ruby. Dark aromas of plum, cassis and fresh herbs lifted by violet. Plush, savory and sweet, displaying lovely depth to its black and purple fruit flavors enlivened by violet, spices and saline minerality. Doesn't have quite the definition or nuance for 90 points, but finishes peppery and firm, with dusty, building tannins. The winemaking team here is now employing more second- and third-use oak to maintain fruitiness. I'd wait a year before pulling the cork."

"As it was the case with the 2013, the 2014 Benmarco Malbec was produced with grapes from vineyards in Los Chacayes in the Valle de Uco and produced with as little intervention as possible, following the ideas of vineyard manager Edgardo del Popolo. The bunches were manually sorted, destemmed softly and the grapes fermented with daily pigeage with a maceration of 20 days. It matured in used French oak barrels for one year. There are notes of ripe plums and dark cherries, with a fresher palate and fine tannins, good balance and a dry, mineral finish. The riper notes turned more floral with time in the glass. It's an impressive 2014, especially for the price. 115,000 bottles were produced."

"Bright ruby-red. Complex aromas of black fruits, coffee bean and smoky, nutty oak. Round, broad and ripe, conveying an impression of soft extraction to the flavors of blackberry and violet. Not quite as generous in the middle as the Susana Balbo Malbec (Balbo also makes the BenMarco wines) but these tannins are sweeter and finer. Finishes with excellent length. An excellent value."

"There is a change in the BenMarco line since 2013 when viticulturalist Edgardo del Popolo arrived at the winery. The 2013 BenMarco Malbec is now sourced from vineyards in Vista Flores and Chacayes in the Valle de Uco The nose is really floral and fruit-driven (black fruit), a little spicy and displaying elegance and poise. The palate is vibrant and focused with pure fruit and silky, fine tannins to make it really drinkable. A great Malbec from Uco and very nicely priced. 125,000 bottles produced."
