André Brunel Domaine Les Cailloux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône

A great Rhône Valley white wine which allies terroir energy and the originality of the Roussanne.

Tasting Notes

A floral scent which is both fruity and honey-like, a mineral taste with viscosity in the finish, this wine will surprise you by its complexity and evolution of these aromas all throughout the tasting.

White meat and fish with sauces, goat cheese.

The 2015 vintage, with exceptional weather conditions, helped the roussanne to fully express itself : elegance, finesse and length are the main characteristics of these unique vintage and wine.

The grapes are picked early in the morning to not expose them to the heat. To limit any contact with oxygen, they are pressed immediately and the juice is put into concrete vats to macerate. No malolactic fermentation. Ageing for 6 months on lees in a concrete vat. No barrel.

Roussanne (80%), Grenache (20%)

The Domaine’s white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is made using 2 plots – each one growing only one type of grape. Les Serres only grows the Roussanne and Le Revès only grows Grenache Blanc. Although the Roussanne isn’t typical for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape whigd, it brings aromaticity, finesse and elegance whereas the Grenache Blanc brings structure and energy. This terroir, full of round pebbles, is characteristic of the appellation and bestows an all-important ageing ability to this white wine, enabling it to express its full potential in several years.

"Distinctive, opening with warm yellow apple and ginger flavors, followed by rich grapefruit oil, mirabelle plum and nectarine notes. Broad through the finish, showing a light waxy edge, but with an underlying freshness. Drink now through 2019. 100 cases imported"

"This displays rich papaya and Cavaillon melon notes, but stays fresh thanks to honeysuckle and citrus oil threads. Offers a long finish. Very inviting. Drink now through 2019.—J.M."

"A pretty, elegant white from this family estate, the 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc has lots of lemon curd, honeysuckle and white flower notes to go with a clean, elegant and seamless style on the palate. Perfectly balanced, it's not a powerhouse, yet excels for its purity and light, supple texture. Drink it over the coming 2-4 years."

"A ripe, fruit-driven style, with lush creamed apple, melon and pear flavors pumping along, inlaid with ample heather and salted butter notes. The long, juicy finish pulls everything together, with enough energy to sustain brief cellaring. Drink now through 2017. 100 cases imported."
