2017 Donnafugata Floramundi Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG

Stephanie Johnson, Wine & Spirits, October 2020

“Best Buy. A hot, dry 2017 summer required some emergency irrigation in Donnafugata's Vittoria vineyards. They began harvest ten days earlier than usual and lost about ten percent of the crop, but the grapes that remained produced a delicious red packed with flavors of juicy plum, rasberry, and rhubarb. Cool acidity freshens the flavors and draws them out on a long, harmonious finish.”

2016 Donnafugata Floramundi Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, October 2019

“This is another new wine from the folks at Donnafugata who have recently enlarged their portfolio of Sicilian wines to include Etna. The 2016 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Floramundi is a delicate red wine from the Vittoria area in the southeast of the island. It's floral and graceful with pressed violets and rose hip, a highly accessible and easy wine that does not lack in either complexity or sophistication. Like a Burgundian wine, this blend of Frappato and Nero d'Avola gives you power and strength, delivered with the grace of a ballet.”

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, October 2019

“The pretty 2017 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Floramundi is a blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato that shows a tight, luminous and snappy personality. This is a red wine to drink with snapper or shellfish. It opens to a medium ruby color and lean consistency with wild berry aromas, blueberry, wild rose and a playful touch of bitter almond. Some 89,000 bottles were made.”

Ian D'Agata, Vinous, August 2019

“Bright deep red. Perfumed aromas of violet, cinnamon and red berries. Then rich, dense and suave but with lively acidity lifting the inner-mouth perfume of the red berry and red cherry flavor. Finishes long and floral. Lovely Cerasuolo di Vittoria with sneaky concentration and real refinement.”

2018 Donnafugata Sherazade

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, October 2019

“The entry-level 2018 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Sherazade offers a great first taste of this mighty Sicilian grape, especially for those who might not be familiar with it. The wine opens to a bright, mid-weight appearance and shows lots of black cherry and pistachio aromas with some black olive at the back. No oak is used, and the quality of fruit in this cooler vintage is almost spicy in taste. Some 200,000 bottles were made.”

2017 Donnafugata Sherazade

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, December 2018

“The 2017 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Sherazade accomplishes two missions. First, the wine shows pure and sharp varietal tones of black fruit, olive and toasted spice. Second, this edition faithfully presents a hot vintage personality with soft concentration and abundant fruit at the core. This is an easy-drinking, mid-weight red that ends with rich flavors of sweet cherry and dried blackberry.”
