2012 Bibi Graetz Colore Rosso

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, January 2022

“The 2012 Colore is on the market now. Production of 2013 and 2014 was skipped, and the next vintage we shall see (very soon) is 2015, which is also reviewed in this report. This vintage produced large berry sizes for Sangiovese—something Bibi Graetz is always happy to see because it is an indicator of elegance and finesse within the context of the house style. If you consider this wine, his observation makes perfect sense. This warm vintage is powerful and rich in its natural state, so any additional berry density might easily lead to overextraction and heaviness. However, the mouthfeel is objectively thinner and more compact in this vintage. Colore represents a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino in equal parts. The bouquet is redolent of wild berry, dried cherry and toasted spice. This vintage offers a very attractive mineral note as well. Fruit is selected from three of Bibi Graetz's favorite vineyards with ancient vines: Lamole (in Chianti Classico), Vincigliata and Siena. Only 5,000 bottles were made.”

2012 Bibi Graetz Colore Rosso

Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, January 2022

“Muscular and concentrated, yet with a sense of elegance derived from vibrant acidity, this red displays black cherry, blackberry, leather, iron and tobacco flavors. Consistent from the start to the long finish. Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Best from 2020 through 2028. 100 cases imported.”

Bibi Graetz Bollamatta

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, January 2022

“To Bibi Graetz, the NV Bollamatta is all about fun. The wine is crazy fun to make (he tells me) and crazy fun to drink (I can confirm). Made in the Charmat method, this cheerful Italian sparkler is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Trebbiano. It opens to a pale pink color and delivers large, round bubbles that are tonic and sharp. The bouquet reveals wild berry, citrus and raw almond. The wine is extremely refreshing, and those prominent bubbles serve to brighten and liven up the palate. This wine follows in the footsteps of one of Italy's most irresistible and successful wine trends: the everyday sparkling wine.”

2017 Bibi Graetz Testamatta Bianco

James Suckling, James Suckling, May 2018

“Intense aromas of white pineapple, lemon peel, white peaches and stones with a seashell undertone. Full-bodied yet still agile and vivid, showing beautiful mouthfeel and length. Salty at the end. Love the finish. Pure and unique. One of Tuscany's top whites from the island of Giglio. Made from ansonica grapes.”

2015 Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso

Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, October 2018

“A rich version, with a layer of oak and flavors of black cherry, plum and underbrush. Stays firm through the tobacco-tinged finish, yet there is ample fruit here. Sangiovese. Best from 2020 through 2032. 1,500 cases imported.”

2017 Bibi Graetz Testamatta Bianco

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, September 2018

“This is one of those wines that is so viscerally linked to a sense of place, you actually feel transported there when you taste it. The 2017 Testamatta Bianco Isola del Giglio takes you on a momentary holiday to the Serrone vineyard on the beautiful Giglio Island off the coast of Tuscany. This is a terrestrial paradise where azure sea waves lap up against rounded granite rocks dotted with prickly pears, caper shrubs and 90-year-old grapevines. Testamatta Bianco is a pure expression of Ansonica from this one vineyard site on the southern and most remote side of the island facing the open Tyrrhenian Sea. Grapes are harvested by hand in extreme conditions and are both fermented and aged in neutral oak, with a small part in stainless steel just to loosen the wine's texture up a bit. The bouquet offers fragrant tones of apricot, honey and candied orange peel. This is a medium to almost full-bodied white with a touch of tannic structure that adds a bit of crunch and snap to the palate. However, what I find most alluring of all are those briny, sea salt flavors that are so deftly put on prominent display. There is no other white wine quite like this. A mere 2,200 bottles exist. It tastes as if you were eating a beautifully ripe summer peach while splashing around in foamy sea surf.”

2016 Spellbound Pinot Noir

Wine Enthusiast, July 2018

“Lots of fruit flavor and a smooth but firm texture make this medium-bodied wine easy to appreciate. There is little oak influence so the fresh and focused cherry and berry flavors take the lead.”
