Scott Black
Brand Manager
While born in Colorado, I grew up mostly in the Pacific Northwest. Fine wine and food had long been of personal interest, but I hadn’t considered it as a career path until I fell into an opportunity to do a research project for a winery in Melbourne, Australia. I was there as an exchange student from the University of British Columbia where I was finishing my graduate MBA studies in marketing and international business. Once I realized I could make a living marketing something I already loved, I was hooked.
That early experience in Melbourne led to a stateside role with Australia’s largest wine conglomerate. I went on to manage brands for a myriad of producers big and small, in both the wine and food industries. Ultimately, my heart led me to focus on estate-driven luxury wines with a keen sense of place, and compelling stories to help tell. Accordingly, I spent the last few years in Napa Valley managing the marketing programs for some of the valley’s best-known wine estates. In coming to Folio, I am excited to be championing a truly diverse portfolio of prestige producers from Champagne and Provence to Portugal’s Douro Valley, and, closer to home, Sonoma’s Russian River.
Outside of the work world, I’ve lived in West Petaluma for over 20 years with my better half, Vanessa, and our two energetic Australian Shepherds: Ike & Ivy. The dogs and I train and compete in competitive dog agility trials, which helps keep everyone sane the rest of the time.
