Tasting Notes

Captivating aromas of strawberry, cranberry and red apple fill the glass. Light weight in the mouth with waves of bright red fruit that roll across the palate. Mouth watering acidity dances on the tongue complementing a juicy finish.

“Early, even and excellent” are three words being used to describe the 2013 growing season, reflecting the consistent quality for which this world famous wine region is known. A warm, dry spring brought early bud break, and helped with canopy vigor and berry size, while creating ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set under sunny skies. With the exception of one heat spike in late June/early July, temperatures were consistently in the zone for optimal vine activity, resulting in notably healthy vines as fruit went through veraison and started ripening. As harvest came to a close in late October, it was about two weeks earlier than other Napa Valley harvests in the last decade. Yields on the whole have been above average and quality is consistent. Another “nearly perfect” vintage.

Our Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are hand-picked in multiple passes to harvest the fruit in lots based on ripeness and flavor. After careful hand sorting, de-stemming, and gentle crushing, the juice cold soaks on the skins for four to five days where it picks up the deep color and rich flavors that have become the hallmark of our Deep Rosé prior to saigneé and fermentation.

The juice is then inoculated with a yeast ideally suited for preserving fruit flavors and maintaining freshness. A very long, cold fermentation (10º-13º C) in stainless steel tanks helps preserve the beautiful fruit aromatics.

The 2012 vintage in saw textbook conditions starting with the spring bud break, steady flowering and a lengthy stretch of warm days and cool, often foggy nights during the long summer months. Light rains held off in late summer until Napa Valley’s treasured wine grapes found optimal ripeness, bringing exceptional quality to the crush pad and in the cellar. The abundance of perfectly ripe grapes--with a smooth balance of acids and sugars--provided a broad sweep of opportunities for winemakers to cull only the most select fruit. Ultimately, the high quality of our fruit in 2012 was the result of vigilant vineyard management and patiently waiting to pick in small lots based on flavor.

This juicy, mouthwatering Deep Rosé pairs well with a wide variety of dishes from spicy Thai cuisine to roasted salmon and Thanksgiving turkey. Enjoy lightly chilled with Valentine’s Day chocolates, or be more adventurous and pour it over ice with a spritz of sparkling water and a slice of blood orange to try the “Isabel Rocks” cocktail.

The 2011 vintage in Napa began with a very wet winter and spring, which pushed bud break, flowering and fruit‐set back by several weeks. Mother nature was in no hurry to speed up the harvest as the cool summer pushed the picking dates back until late October and finishing in early November. Ultimately, the high quality of our fruit in 2011 was the result of vigilant canopy management and patiently waiting to pick in small lots based on flavor.

The 2010 vintage in Napa began with a very wet winter, which pushed bud break, flowering and fruit-set back by approximately two weeks. One look at this Rosé and the color immediately tells you that it is a wine unlike any other. Made from fully mature Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, the I’M Deep Rosé is the Saigneé free run juice from our family’s prized vineyards in Atlas Peak and Pope Valley. The vineyards produce an extraordinary deep rosé, rich in color and flavor – the result is a wine with incredible concentration, structure and acidity that is delicious on its own or a natural compliment to a variety of dishes.

The 2008 harvest produced a Rosé that is even more beautiful and delicious than last vintage; you’ll have to taste it to believe it. The 2008 growing season was marked by a dry spring, lengthy late April frost and erratic bloom conditions. Late summer fires proved devastating for many vintners but for those not burned by fire the smoke proved to serve as protection from the high temperatures typical for Napa Valley. Temperatures were generally 10° lower than predictions. Overall, the erratic growing season was followed by a perfect ripening year, allowing the grapes to mature into what has the potential to be one of the best vintages Napa Valley has seen in 30 years. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes spent 4 days at 13°C (~56F) during cold soak of pre-fermentation.

2013 Isabel Mondavi Deep Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon
Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast, July 2014

"In vintage after vintage, the winery has chosen to make this blush wine heavier than most rosés in California. They’ve done so again in 2013, giving a darkly colored, fruity wine you could almost drink unchilled as a table red. It has a Beaujolais-like cherry jamminess that is frankly delicious."

2012 Isabel Mondavi Deep Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon
Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast, September 2013

"Like the 2011, the winery’s new vintage is darker, richer and heavier than most other rosés out there. It’s not a delicate wine, but it is a very delicious one, offering waves of cherry pie, chocolate and vanilla flavors."

2012 Isabel Mondavi Deep Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon
Tim Fish, Wine Spectator, 2013

"With its dark color, this big boy rosé could pass as a Beaujolais, but the wine makes a statement with its deep, supple flavors of black cherry and toasty spice, with a hint of herb. Drink now."

2011 Isabel Mondavi Deep Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon
Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast, October 2012

"To call this rosé deep is an understatement. In color and body, it’s almost a red wine. But it does have the silky delicacy of a blush wine, and is frankly delicious in cherry jam, red licorice and Dr. Pepper flavors. It finishes thoroughly dry, and the acidity is racy."
