Leda Viņas Viejas
Bodegas Leda produces great multi-terroir wines made from the Tempranillo grape variety that is obtained from very old vines. The centennial vines grow in a range of unique terroir that stretches throughout the Duero Valley, giving this wine a unique and multidimensional sense of place. By carefully selecting the individual vineyard blocks each and every vintage, the Leda team ensures its followers that only the most expressive and naturally concentrated fruit will give life to this project year-after-year. With limited production of 80,000 bottles, Leda wines are expressive and harmonic. Containing roots that reflect the richness, strength and heterogeneity of its origin, Leda's Viñas Viejas is in a class of its own.
Leda's winemaking is the sole responsibility of the García family who co-owns the winery along with Casa Masaveu Wineries. Eduardo Garcia, son of the prestigious winemaker Mariano Garcia, is the Technical Director of the winery.
WINEMAKERS NOTES Due to the Garcias' long-standing relationships with many of Castilla y Leon's top viticulturalists, they are given the unique flexibility to select the best old-vine Tempranillo grown at a variety of elevations and in a multitude of different soil types. Made from a strict selection of 50- to 100-year- old vines, the average yield of these ancient plants is less than 2,500 kg per hectare. Bottled after spending 30 months' aging in 100% French oak, this wine is ready to drink now or lie down for up to 30 years.
TASTING NOTES Fine and elegant nose, with intense notes of red fruit and spice layered over a well-integrated balsamic background that gives complexity and depth. Powerful on the palate, well structured, round and edgeless, this wine has fine, gentle tannins that mark the character of the vintage and invite one to keep drinking. An approachable wine that is ready to drink or save, it is the perfect reflection of the great potential of the old vineyards from the Duero Valley.
