The 2009 balance sheet appears quite positive, due to the excellent quality of the harvested fruit. Spring, as in the preceding season, brought heavy rains, which proved a significant challenge to vineyard crews working the vines and protecting them from fungal attack, but the rainfall did build up groundwater reserves. June and July on the other hand saw moderate rainfall, which enabled the vines to make up for spring's slow pace and brought forward the ripening process. The vines were thus able to function at maximum efficiency and the grapes ripened slightly earlier than last year. In addition, the cool nights and warm, sunny days that followed in September ensured that the grapes achieved full ripeness and were able to yield wines of very high quality. This favorable growing season gifted us with optimal conditions, bringing into the cellar well-ripened fruit, desired acidities, and good overall aromatic complexity.
GRAPE VARIETIES: 100% Sangiovese
Ruby red colour. Intense and elegant bouquet with mellow scents of berry fruits like blueberry, joined by floral notes of violet. A lovely spiciness follows with black pepper and star anise, balsamic notes as eucalyptus and mineral notes of flint. The palate reveals a notably substantial body accompanied by a long and harmonious aromatic persistence and a fine and elegant tannin texture.
